The saga over the future of solicitor-advocate Alan Blacker looks set for another twist this month when he appeals against the decision to strike him off.
The Rochdale lawyer, banned from practising by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal last year, will have an appeal hearing at the High Court (Administrative Court) next week.
The tribunal order is subject to appeal but remains in force pending the High Court’s decision.
It is understood the Solicitors Regulation Authority, which prosecuted Blacker, will be represented at the hearing.
Blacker, who also goes by the name of Lord Harley, lost a bid to have a re-hearing of the tribunal case last September, having argued he was not able to attend the London venue due to health problems.
During that hearing, his representative Anton van Dellen stressed that a separate appeal was being prepared for the High Court.
He had been struck off in July for a series of rule breaches including accounts failings and falsely claiming to have academic and other qualifications. He was also ordered to pay £86,000 costs.
Blacker came to public attention in 2014 when he was criticised by a judge in court for looking like ‘something out of Harry Potter’ and for wearing medals and ceremonial ribbons on his gown.
